Travelers departing from the Kathmandu Valley have two primary overland driving routes to reach Daman and Palung Valley. Here is how they compare in road distance, drive time, and vehicle suitability:

Detailed Directions: Option 1 (Scenic Ridge Route - 45 km)

Itinerary: Kathmandu (Thankot / Chandragiri) → Chandragiri Ridge Pass → Chitlang Organic Village → Markhu/Tistung Crossroads → Palung Agro Valley → Daman Hilltop (2,322m).

This is the shortest and most picturesque drive. It takes you across lush terrace farms in Chitlang and Palung, past apple and kiwi orchards, before ascending the pine-clad ridge up to Daman.

Detailed Directions: Option 2 (Tribhuvan Highway - 75 km)

Itinerary: Kathmandu (Kalanki) → Naubise (Prithvi Highway Junction) → Turn South onto Tribhuvan Highway (H02) → Tistung → Palung Bazaar → Daman Hilltop (2,322m).

Constructed in 1956, the historic Tribhuvan Highway is Nepal's first national highway. It is completely paved and winds gracefully through rhododendron forests with gentle curves, making it ideal for standard cars and low-clearance vehicles.

• Fuel Stations: Available at Thankot, Naubise, Palung Bazaar, and Bajrabarahi. Top up before ascending the high pass.
• Food Stops: Traditional Newari Khaja and organic vegetable curries are served throughout Palung Bazaar and Tistung Deurali. Fresh trout fish can be enjoyed along the Markhu lake shore.
